In the next part of our "Through the eyes of our customers" interview series, Tünde Timár, MOL Group's change management expert, and Márta Zubai, MOL Campus' communication expert, told us about the reception and results of our joint project, the PlayCampus gamification solution.
On December 9, 2022, 2,500 colleagues occupied their brand new workplaces in the 143-meter office building, which is one of the greenest office buildings in Budapest. It also represents the highest level in terms of energy saving and environmental awareness, and it won the "Headquarters of the year 2022" award.
Preparing MOL colleagues for this change was an important part of the preparations in the years before the move. The goal of the MOL Campus project was to engage and inform employees, thereby strengthening their commitment. The Games for Business team had the honor of supporting MOL colleagues with information with our digital, gamified learning system.
G4B.: You applied a gamified solution to support the move to the new central office building. Why did you choose this tool?
T.T.: We had to convey a large amount of information to our colleagues in a short time. The move also brought a change in culture, new ways of working and many technological innovations, which we wanted to share in a less formal way with Games for Business's innovative, gamified corporate learning system.
M.Z.: In order for our colleagues to look forward to the new work environment and the many unique smart solutions of the Campus that make everyday life easier, something completely revolutionary was needed in addition to the traditional communication channels, which attracts attention, motivates the processing of information, and is also entertaining.
G4B.: To what extent did the gamified transfer of information facilitate the moving process?
M.Z.: The story created in the digital platform allowed our colleagues to gain knowledge almost unnoticed, easily and playfully. The user journey and the virtual locations simulated the real environment very well, so they could experience their first working day in the new headquarters in advance, almost like a "main rehearsal".
T.T: We have developed many smart solutions that were not present at all in our work until now. With the help of the new platform, we tried to bring our digital developments closer to our colleagues.
G4B.: What metrics or methods did you use to measure the success of the program?
M.Z.: During the moving period, the system registered 1,422 active users out of 2,500 colleagues (1,200 Hungarian and 222 English-speaking), which exceeded the expectations of our managers, as it is usually difficult to persuade colleagues to engage in voluntary activities in addition to their everyday tasks. The workers collectively spent over 3,000 hours getting to know the new building in a virtual way, and there wasn't a time of the day - including the night hours - when someone wasn't playing with PlayCampus.
T.T.: I think it also speaks for itself that the development of our HR onboarding program in the gamified digital learning system of Games for Business, which supports the integration of our new hires, was given the green light immediately after the program ended. Thanks to Viktor Tomor, Bálint Holczinger and their team, our newest colleagues in Budapest have been able to playfully get to know the MOL Campus and with it the company's business branches, operations and the onboarding program for over two months now.
G4B.: What was your personal favorite element of the system?
T.T.: Internal company communication usually takes place through formal channels. I really liked that in this case the content reached the users in a creative and diverse way, for example through mini-games.
M.Z.: The content development process itself was enjoyable, which allowed a bit of humor as well. In addition, the lovely characters added to the colorful, realistic backgrounds also contributed to the game's success.
